West Elm just launched a limited edition print of Laura’s painting “Eichler Summer”
“Eichler Summer” is a really special painting for a couple of reasons.
First - it is a portrait of our beloved Mid-Century modern Eichler home. We love the floor-to-ceiling windows in most of the spaces, the open air atrium at the center of the house and the exposed post and beam construction. We feel very connected to the outdoor spaces, most notably the pool just outside the back windows which reflects dancing light patterns into the living space every afternoon.
Second - It was THE painting that kicked off my water series. Before this moment, I was painting Mid-century objects and iconic furniture pieces. While I was creating this painting of our home I realized how challenging it was to paint the water in the pool. I decided I needed to figure out how to paint the water and light refractions that mesmerized me. I began creating small studies to work on capturing the water with paint and it opened up something in me I had not expected.
“I wanted to create a collection to celebrate my partnership with West Elm. “
