TideGlass
60 x 48 (1.5” deep)
2025
Tideglass captures the crystalline clarity of shallow water, where sunlight dances across shifting depths.
With its bold scale and high-contrast surface, this piece brings a sense of movement and light play that feels both energetic and immersive.
The color palette shifts from deep blue to pale aqua, creating a visual rhythm that mirrors the tides themselves—fluid, luminous, and always in motion.
Technique
Built through dozens of transparent oil glazes, Tideglass explores the interaction of light and water at a more assertive scale than many of my earlier works.
The top layers are deliberately refined to preserve the glow of the underpainting, creating a layered glass-like effect.
This piece balances precision and spontaneity—the current guiding the composition as much as the brush.
a note from laura
I painted this one during a stretch of long, quiet studio days with bright sun streaming through the windows. It felt like a shift—technically and emotionally.
Tideglass holds that same energy: bright, alive, and impossible to pin down.
