Reverie
48 x 36 (1.5” deep)
2026
In Reverie, sunlight filters through warm, clear water, scattering into soft ripples of turquoise and pale gold. The surface dissolves into light near the bottom of the canvas, evoking the feeling of standing in shallow water on a bright day, weightless, warm, and quietly luminous. This original oil painting brings the calm of coastal water into any space, from private residences to hospitality interiors and healing environments seeking a sense of warmth and ease.

Technique
Executed in oil on canvas (48 × 36"), Reverie was built through layered glazes of turquoise, aqua, and shades of warm white, with soft-edged ripples worked wet-into-wet to capture the dappled movement of light through shallow water. The lower portion of the canvas dissolves into near-white, allowing the painting to glow from within - a technique developed over a decade of painting light on water.
a note from laura
There's a particular kind of light that only happens in shallow, warm water, when the sun reaches all the way to the sandy floor and everything seems to glow from below. Reverie came from that feeling: warmth, ease, and a kind of weightlessness. Painted in my Bay Area studio, it carries the quiet optimism of a tropical morning into whatever space it lives in.
