POOLSIDE GLOW
48 x 48 (1.5” deep)
2025
Poolside Glow was inspired by the way afternoon light dances across still water — that moment when the surface quiets and the reflections seem to hover between worlds. The painting captures a sense of suspension, as if time slows just beneath the surface.
There’s a warmth in the light, even as the palette remains cool and restrained — a meeting of clarity and calm. The scene feels familiar yet dreamlike, echoing the quiet intimacy of summer days spent beside the water.
Technique
Built with thin, layered oil glazes, this piece was shaped slowly over time. The surface was softened with each pass, allowing earlier marks to blur and dissolve like memories in water.
The brushwork remains delicate and restrained, focused more on atmosphere than structure. The goal was to create a sense of immersion—of looking not at water, but through it.

a note from laura
There’s something endlessly soothing about painting water — it demands patience and presence. With Poolside Glow, I wanted to explore that space between movement and stillness, where light becomes both subject and silence.
The process felt like breathing — deliberate, unhurried, alive. To me, the painting holds a kind of quiet optimism — the way sunlight glows even through the calmest depths.
