Technique

Executed in oil on canvas, Luminance was built through layered glazes of pale aqua and white, with soft-edged caustic patterns worked wet-into-wet to capture the way sunlight refracts through shallow, moving water. The close, intimate framing allows the play of light and shadow to become the entire focus of the painting.

a note from laura

Some of my favorite moments happen when I look straight down into shallow water and let everything else fall away- just light, moving in patterns across the surface. Luminance came from one of those moments. It's a quiet, close kind of painting, an invitation to slow down and notice how light behaves when given clear water to move through.
